$200,000 boost for Whitsundays Festival

The plan to hold a week-long yachting festival in the Whitsundays in January has received a massive boost with a $200,000 injection of funds for the $400,000 event from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Community Investment Stream.

Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen says the Whitsunday Clipper Carnival would provide the region with a much-needed tourism boost.

“Whitsunday Regional Council will throw a week-long celebration to welcome what could be an extra 4000 visitors to the region. There will be both national and international exposure for the beautiful Whitsundays, as well as activities the local community can be involved in.”

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox welcomed the announcement.

“The Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival will highlight the whole region with signature events such as a long lunch on iconic Whitehaven Beach, a rodeo on the coastal beaches of Bowen and a large-scale community welcome event.”
