The Whitsundays Volunteer Marine Rescue Ball, originally scheduled for March 5, will now be held on Easter Saturday, March 26 at 6:30pm.
With the weather playing havoc across several events last weekend, the decision to reschedule the event was made in the interests of public safety.
In a statement, the VMR says, “the ground under and around it [the marquee] was simply too waterlogged to proceed from either a comfort or safety point of view. Instead of being a Tropicana Ball it would have been more like bring your own gumboots!”
The location at the Whisper Bay Boat Ramp in Cannonvale remains the same and with the support of community sponsors, the VMR will be offering over $22 500 in prizes through auctions, raffles and door prizes.
For those that bought tickets for the original date but have other plans in place for the Easter Weekend, refunds are available by returning the ticket to the place of purchase.
Anyone looking to purchase tickets for the new date can do so from Whitsunday Bookings in Airlie Beach.
