Local mariners now have a safer place to set off from with the upgraded Whisper Bay Boat Ramp officially opened this morning.
Construction ran from September through to January and was done to provide another ramp to one of the most popular places for boats in Australia.
In attendance were members of the three clubs that will use the public ramp, the Whitsunday Marine Club, the Whitsunday Game Fishing Club and the Whitsunday Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR).
Jamie Lovenbury, President of the Whitsunday Game Fishing Club and Committee Member of the Whitsunday Marine Club, showed his excitement for the final product and what it will mean for the clubs that will use it.
“We are both really pleased to see this project go ahead and to have it finished off to such a high standard cause it looks absolutely fantastic,” he says.
“Now it’s all finished, the VMR they can tow rescue boats in here safely on most tides so anyone that launches here, they can get back to their boat if they’ve broken down.”
The Game Fish Club will also be able to hold events using the ramp where they were not able to in the past as it was simply not safe.
Mayor Jenny Whitney helped unveil the plaque in the carpark and was happy to get the project finished.
“This has been a project we’ve had on the drawing board for some time, and I think to see it come to fruition and see the great utilisation of this area has been remarkable,” she says.
The boat ramp is located on Altmann Avenue in Cannonvale and is open for public use.
